Chabuta
Step 1
Start with a heaping chashaku (bamboo tea spoon) of fresh Matcha powdered tea.
Step 2
The second one should be 1/4 of size of the first.
step 3
After you’ve placed these in the bottom of the bowl, add hot water.
Make sure it is at about 165 degrees as to get the best flavor out of your tea.
You can accomplish this by pouring just boiled water from the teapot into a ceramic pitcherwaiting 40 seconds, then making the matcha with this water.
Step 4
Whisk the tea with a bamboo whisk (Chasen) making a “W” pattern as you whisk back and forth across the bowl.
Remember, a light touch wih good control makes a nice even froth on your tea.
Step 5
Enjoy your bowl of Matcha with some sweets.
These are higashi, or dry sweets, made with wasanbon sugar and are usually served with thin tea.
